Power outages<\/strong>, tree collapses<\/strong> and wind damage<\/strong> are being reported across Ontario<\/strong> and Quebec<\/strong> after a series of severe thunderstorms<\/strong> swept through Central Canada<\/strong> on Thursday<\/strong>, fuelled by a combination of oppressive humidity<\/strong>, intense heat<\/strong>, and a low-pressure system<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As of Thursday evening<\/strong>, more than 40,000 customers<\/strong> in Ontario<\/strong> were left without electricity, according to Hydro One<\/strong>. The hardest-hit zones include southwestern Ontario<\/strong>, especially near Mitchell<\/strong>, where there have been multiple damage reports<\/strong> following a wave of afternoon storms.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Throughout the day, tornado warnings<\/strong> were issued across both northern<\/strong> and southern Ontario<\/strong>, though no official confirmations of touchdowns have been made. Still, storm-related destruction continues to surface, with strong evidence of tree uprooting<\/strong>, infrastructure damage<\/strong>, and blown-over objects<\/strong>. One particularly intense storm system surged through Ferme-Neuve<\/strong>, in Quebec<\/strong>, on Thursday afternoon<\/strong>, bringing with it high winds<\/strong> and scattered debris<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n From Lake Huron<\/strong> to the Georgian Bay shoreline<\/strong>, weather patterns became increasingly organized and linear between 7:00<\/strong> and 8:00 p.m.<\/strong>, pushing wind gusts<\/strong> into the 90\u2013100+ km\/h (55\u201362+ mph)<\/strong> range. These storms were driven by an unstable atmosphere packed with moisture<\/strong> and wind shear<\/strong>, boosting the risk of hail<\/strong>, flash flooding<\/strong>, and damaging winds<\/strong>. There was also a slight, yet present, possibility of rotating cells<\/strong> forming isolated tornadoes across northeastern Ontario<\/strong> and parts of Quebec<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In the Greater Toronto Area<\/strong>, storms arrived by late evening<\/strong> and overnight<\/strong>, though they began to weaken as available energy faded. However, intermittent rainfall<\/strong> is expected to linger into Friday morning<\/strong>, especially over the northern GTA<\/strong> and surrounding communities.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Looking ahead to next week<\/strong>, Central Canada<\/strong> will remain under the grip of sunny<\/strong>, humid<\/strong>, and hot conditions<\/strong>, with the risk of scattered thunderstorms<\/strong> remaining elevated. A strong cold front<\/strong> is forecast to arrive by midweek<\/strong>, prompting another round of storm activity<\/strong>.
