Heavy rain drenches Worcester County as flood watch begins
Worcester County is facing a significant weather alert as the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the entire region, starting from 8 p.m. on Monday, May 5, through 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6. The advisory also extends to Western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut, where similar storm impacts are expected.
Rainfall expected to intensify through Tuesday
Several rounds of heavy rain are set to move across Central Massachusetts beginning Monday night, accompanied by occasional thunderstorms. Forecast models predict up to 2.5 inches (about 6.35 cm) of additional precipitation by Tuesday evening, with localized pockets possibly receiving up to 4 inches (10.2 cm).
This prolonged wet pattern could cause dangerous runoff, leading to rising water levels in rivers, creeks, streams, and low-lying areas, particularly those that are already saturated from previous rain.
Cloudy skies to linger until midweek
Rainy and overcast conditions are expected to persist through Wednesday, May 7, with skies finally clearing and sunshine returning on Thursday, May 8. Temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 60s°F (around 18–20°C) through midweek, before cooling slightly into the 50s°F (10–15°C) on Friday, May 9.
