Persistent showers and strong gusts impact Las Vegas Valley
A flood advisory remained in effect through 9 p.m. Monday across the Las Vegas Valley, including Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, and Boulder City, as moderate to heavy rainfall continued to sweep through the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas warned of nuisance flooding, ponding on roadways, and wind gusts exceeding 40 mph, prompting caution for those navigating city streets.
Rainfall totals climb in an unusually wet May
By 4 p.m. Monday, Harry Reid International Airport had recorded 0.18 inches (4.57 mm) of rainfall, raising the monthly total for May to 0.43 inches (10.92 mm). This figure places May 2025 among the top ten wettest Mays on record for Las Vegas, a city typically known for its arid climate and dry springs.
For historical comparison, here are the wettest Mays ever recorded in the Las Vegas area:
- 1969: 0.96 inches (24.38 mm)
- 1987: 0.90 inches (22.86 mm)
- 1971: 0.84 inches (21.34 mm)
- 2019: 0.80 inches (20.32 mm)
- 1977: 0.72 inches (18.29 mm)
With additional rainfall possible overnight, May 2025 could continue climbing the ranks of historical precipitation.
