Showers and isolated thunderstorms this afternoon across Central Indiana
Thursday, May 8, 2025 begins with mild and mostly cloudy skies across Central Indiana, as scattered showers and a few thunderstorms move across the region. Activity remains spotty through the morning, but brief heavy downpours may occur, especially in localized areas. As the day progresses, shower and storm coverage will increase, mainly along and south of Interstate 70, with slow-moving cells capable of producing heavy rainfall.
Though no severe weather is expected, frequent lightning may disrupt outdoor plans, particularly during the afternoon. Temperatures will vary significantly, with mid to upper 60s°F (18–20°C) in northern Indiana, and low to mid 70s°F (21–24°C) in southern parts of the state.
Dry and cooler air arrives Thursday night
By Thursday evening, dry air will begin filtering in from the northwest, leading to clearing skies overnight. Temperatures will drop, with overnight lows in the upper 30s°F (3–4°C) for northern counties, and low to mid 40s°F (6–7°C) for most other areas.
Sunny and calm conditions Friday
Friday ushers in high pressure, resulting in a sunny and tranquil day. Despite cooler-than-average morning lows, afternoon highs will climb into the upper 60s°F (around 20°C), offering a crisp and pleasant spring day.
Mother’s Day weekend warms up under high pressure
The weekend looks fantastic across Indiana. The high-pressure system will drift eastward, maintaining clear skies and bringing in warmer air. Saturday afternoon temperatures will rise to the mid 70s°F (23–24°C). By Mother’s Day on Sunday, much of the state may see highs approaching 80°F (27°C), under mostly sunny skies and light winds.
Rain and humidity return early next week
Looking ahead to next week, an upper-level low pressure system advancing from the Gulf of Mexico will bring rising humidity and a renewed chance for rain. Scattered showers could develop Monday night, with higher rain chances expected on Tuesday and Wednesday. Despite the unsettled pattern, temperatures will remain above seasonal norms, with daily highs near 80°F (27°C) through midweek.
