Soak up the sun now—wet weather looms
Enjoy the sunny skies and mild air today across Massachusetts, because rain is knocking at the door tonight. According to NBC10 Boston’s Pete Bouchard and Tevin Wooten, we’re bracing for a return of steady rain that will stretch from Friday into early Saturday, with significant moisture and cooler temperatures.
Tonight: First wave of rain arrives
After a bright and pleasant Thursday, showers will begin tonight, with embedded downpours in some spots. This first band won’t bring strong winds, but it will begin a soggy stretch that doesn’t let up quickly.
Friday: Raw, chilly and wet
Friday’s weather will feel more like March than May. Temperatures will stall in the upper 40s to low 50s °F (8–11 °C), staying nearly unchanged from morning through night. While there may be a brief dry pause during the early commute, expect moderate to heavy rain for most of the day, adding to already saturated ground.
The air will feel damp and raw, with just enough wind to bite, though nothing severe is forecasted. As the day continues, heavier downpours could return by Friday night, raising the risk of minor flooding in low-lying areas, especially where rainfall totals reach 2.5–3 inches (63–76 mm).
Saturday: Slow clearing, lingering showers
The rain tapers early Saturday, but don’t expect sunlight to flood in immediately. Skies will stay gray through the morning, with gradual clearing into the afternoon. While not a full washout, it will feel damp and sluggish until at least early-to-mid afternoon.
Sunday (Mother’s Day): Bright skies return
In what feels like a rare triumph for May, Mother’s Day is expected to be sunny and dry. Temperatures will climb back into the low 70s °F (21–23 °C), with a steady breeze—a welcome change from the soggy lead-up.
This brief burst of spring warmth could extend into early next week, but confidence is low on how long it will hold, given the persistent wet pattern we’ve seen lately.
