Unstable Monday evening across Wichita and surrounding areas
A strong severe weather threat is looming over Kansas, especially across south-central regions. In Wichita, as well as nearby areas, the forecast of strong storms for Monday evening has led to the postponement of multiple public and school events. Expected conditions include damaging winds, hail, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
El Dorado schools: ceremonies rescheduled
The El Dorado USD 490 school district has announced the postponement of the Virtual School graduation and eighth-grade promotion ceremonies. Both events have been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 20. The graduation will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, and the eighth-grade promotion will start at 6:00 p.m.
Despite the storms, the after party will still take place tonight at Club Vaudeville, but with a revised time: 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Wichita Police Department: academy graduation postponed
The Wichita Police Department has also postponed the Citizen Police Academy graduation ceremony, affecting participants and their families. A new date will be announced once it is confirmed and weather conditions allow for safe gathering.
