Stormy Thursday expected across North Texas
Dallas, North Texas is preparing for another round of active weather as storms return Thursday evening, following a stretch of calm and dry days. According to the latest outlook, there is a moderate risk of severe weather for much of the region, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours.
Thursday’s setup: warm day, stormy evening
Thursday will begin with partly sunny skies and morning temperatures around 68°F (20°C). As the day progresses, cloud cover will increase, and highs are expected to reach near 90°F (32°C). Storm activity will begin developing north of the Red River in the early afternoon, around 2 or 3 p.m., then move into the northern parts of the region between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
By 5 p.m., storms will begin impacting the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, continuing into the evening until approximately 10 p.m.. Rain coverage is estimated at 40 to 50 percent, so not every location will see rain, but those that do may experience intense conditions.
Severe weather risk and primary threats
The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the forecast for most of North Texas from a marginal to a slight risk for severe weather — rated a 2 on a 1 to 5 scale. The main concerns include:
- Damaging winds
- Large hail
- A low potential for an isolated tornado
While the tornado risk remains limited, any storm that forms could become severe quickly, especially during peak heating in the evening.
Looking ahead: Memorial Day weekend outlook
Your Memorial Day weekend will begin quietly, but storm chances will increase starting Sunday afternoon, continuing overnight into Monday morning. Rain chances for Memorial Day itself are currently forecast at 30 to 40 percent, particularly during the morning hours.
Whether these storms clear quickly or linger into Memorial Day afternoon is still uncertain, so monitor updates closely as the holiday approaches.
Stay weather-aware this Thursday evening and into the holiday weekend as unsettled conditions return to North Texas.
