Stormy Thursday with heat and hail in North Texas
Thursday, May 22, brings back storm threats across Dallas and much of North Texas as another round of severe weather is expected ahead of a cooling cold front that could shift the tone of Memorial Day.
By the afternoon, residents will notice a spike in humidity as a storm system advances into the region. Expect highs near 90°F (32°C), with scattered showers developing into the evening. Some of these storms could turn severe, with wind gusts reaching 55 to 65 mph, and hailstones as large as ping-pong balls.
The storm window is projected between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m., after which conditions should settle, leading into a calmer night.
Friday through Sunday: Heat, humidity and more storm risk
Friday starts cloudy, but sun breaks through in the afternoon. Temperatures will remain hot and humid, ranging from the upper 80s to low 90s°F (31–33°C). Saturday continues the trend with hotter air, persistent humidity, and breezy winds, pushing highs above 90°F (32°C) across much of the Dallas–Fort Worth area.
As we head into Sunday, another storm system approaches. Most of the storm activity is expected after sunset, with a renewed risk of severe weather overnight. Be prepared for strong winds, large hail, and heavy rainfall through the late-night hours.
Memorial Day: Cooler shift after the front
A cold front is expected to move through by Memorial Day, although lingering showers remain possible. Behind the front, cooler air takes over, dropping highs into the 70s°F (21–26°C) — a noticeable change after the weekend heat.
Looking ahead: A break from the extremes
Tuesday should bring dry skies, with only a slight chance of showers on Wednesday. Temperatures will remain below average, easing the severe weather threat through the middle of next week.
