  • Thursday morning: Mild and partly sunny
  • Afternoon into evening: Storms build and move south
  • Threats: Winds and hail, isolated tornado possible
  • Memorial Day weekend: Storms may return

Dallas, North Texas residents should prepare for a return of stormy skies on Thursday, following a brief pause in rainfall. The FOX 4 Weather Team warns that strong to severe thunderstorms may roll through, especially in the evening hours.

Thursday morning: Mild and partly sunny

Expect to wake up to temperatures in the upper 60s°F (around 20°C), with partly sunny skies and a few patchy clouds. Conditions will remain dry through most of the day, allowing temperatures to rise close to 90°F (32°C) by mid-afternoon.

Afternoon into evening: Storms build and move south

Beginning as early as 2 or 3 p.m., thunderstorms are forecast to cross the Red River, first impacting northern sections of the region. From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the northern counties should remain alert, followed by a shift southward into the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Rain coverage during this event is projected for about 40 to 50 percent of the area, making for a scattered but impactful evening commute.

Threats: Winds and hail, isolated tornado possible

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the severe weather risk for most of North Texas from marginal (Level 1) to slight (Level 2) on their 1 to 5 scale.

Key severe weather threats include:

  • Damaging winds
  • Large hail
  • A low-end chance of an isolated tornado

Memorial Day weekend: Storms may return

As Memorial Day weekend begins, Saturday looks calm and dry, but storm chances increase again by Sunday afternoon, with showers and storms continuing into Monday morning.

Currently, 30 to 40 percent of the region could see rainfall Monday morning, but timing remains uncertain, and forecasts will be updated as confidence grows.

Stay weather-aware, especially during evening plans on Thursday and the holiday weekend.
