Burnet High School adjusts plans due to storm threat

Severe storms sweeping through Central Texas are impacting important community events, including high school graduation ceremonies. Burnet High School, part of Burnet Consolidated Independent School District (CISD), has taken proactive safety measures in light of the threatening weather.

The graduation event originally planned for Thursday evening has been moved indoors to the school’s gymnasium. This shift aims to protect the safety of all attendees—graduates, school staff, and guests alike. According to a message posted on Burnet High School’s official Facebook page, doors will open at 7:45 p.m., with the ceremony beginning promptly at 8:30 p.m..

To manage space and ensure order, each graduating student has been issued five rain tickets for guest seating in the gym. In addition, overflow accommodations are being provided in the cafeteria and auditorium, where guests can watch a livestream of the ceremony.

Cedar Creek High School delays due to lightning

Cedar Creek High School, located in Bastrop ISD, is also grappling with weather-related disruptions. The school’s graduation ceremony has been delayed by 30 minutes because of lightning activity in the vicinity.

Authorities have urged everyone currently at the stadium to seek immediate shelter in their vehicles, emphasizing that safety remains the top priority.

These changes underscore how unpredictable weather in Central Texas continues to challenge large-scale community events, especially during late May, when graduation season typically peaks.
