After a sunny and hot start to the weekend, North Texas residents should prepare for a wet and stormy Memorial Day. According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, scattered thunderstorms will begin developing Sunday night, particularly across northern counties of the region.
Severe storms possible late Sunday through Monday evening
Stronger storms, some of which could become severe, are forecast to roll through late Sunday evening and continue into Monday night. The main threats include large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall, which may trigger localized flooding in vulnerable areas. The most intense storms could deliver between 3 to 5 inches (76 to 127 mm) of rain, while most locations will likely receive 1 to 2 inches (25 to 50 mm).
Cooler, wetter conditions on Monday
Monday’s forecast high temperature is expected to drop to 81°F (27°C) due to cloud cover and rain, offering a cooler contrast to the heat of the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will remain hot and humid, with highs in the low 90s°F (32–34°C) and heat indexes climbing toward 100°F (38°C).
Residents are urged to remain weather-aware as conditions may change rapidly, especially during the afternoon and evening hours on Monday, when storm activity is expected to peak.
Stay alert for weather updates and be prepared for potential delays or disruptions to outdoor Memorial Day plans in North Texas.
