Cold start across Rhinelander, Wausau and Sturgeon Bay

A sharp burst of cold air swept through north-central Wisconsin overnight, triggering a Frost Advisory that’s active until 9 a.m. this Sunday. The National Weather Service in Green Bay reported temperatures dipping into the low-to-mid 30s Fahrenheit (1–2 °C), with isolated pockets nearing the freezing mark.

Rhinelander, Wausau, and Sturgeon Bay experienced some of the coldest readings, with local frosty conditions putting tender vegetation at risk. The advisory, now nearing expiration, urged residents to take precautions for plants, especially in areas vulnerable to cold air pooling.

Sunday daytime outlook: Warmer but damp

Following the frosty dawn, temperatures are expected to climb into the low 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit (16–22 °C) across central and eastern Wisconsin. While skies remain mostly dry, scattered light showers may develop during the afternoon. Expect patchy fog and damp pavement for early drivers, particularly along Highway 29 and U.S. Route 51.

Midweek changes ahead

Looking beyond the weekend, unsettled conditions are forecast to return from Tuesday through Thursday. Rain chances will increase, especially by midweek, but daytime highs will stay near average, in the upper 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit (20–22 °C).

Although the current Frost Advisory is set to expire shortly, overnight monitoring remains crucial as the possibility of similar temperatures could persist into early Monday. Additional weather alerts will be issued as needed.
