Heavy rains flood I-35 East near Dallas
During the early hours of Tuesday, June 4, intense and prolonged rainfall across North Texas left a heavily traveled section of I-35 East in the Dallas area submerged. According to FOX 4 field reporters, the flooding occurred around midnight, creating hazardous conditions for motorists and prompting flash flood warnings.
Water up to car windows on I-35
By just before midnight, vehicles along I-35 East were reported to be immersed in water up to their windows, with northbound traffic brought to a halt as floodwaters rose to the frames of many vehicles. The scene, described as alarming, unfolded shortly after flash flood alerts were issued for Dallas County and nearby areas, with warnings in place through 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Severe weather across North Dallas County
The torrential rainfall affected multiple northern Dallas County communities, including Addison, Garland, and Plano, where severe weather alerts were active from Tuesday afternoon into early Wednesday. There were also isolated tornado warnings, although no tornadoes or structural damage had been confirmed at the time of reporting.
Limited official response so far
As of now, no formal statements have been issued by local officials regarding the full extent of the roadway closures or additional flood-affected areas. The uncertainty has added to the challenge for both residents and commuters, as conditions may still evolve depending on further precipitation.
Ongoing weather monitoring
Although the immediate floodwaters have raised concerns for motorist safety, broader severe weather monitoring continues across the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex. Further flash floods or storms could affect additional zones as meteorologists track changing patterns.
