Rising temperatures across southern Spain
Starting today, Thursday, June 5, the heat wave is intensifying again in Spain, especially in the southern and eastern provinces, with temperatures reaching up to 106°F (41°C) by the weekend. According to the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (Aemet), today’s highs are already approaching 86°F (30°C) in much of the northeast, Balearic Islands, central, and southern Spain. In the Guadalquivir Valley, the mercury is expected to hit around 93°F (34°C).
The general weather pattern will remain stable, featuring clear or mostly sunny skies. Only Galicia and the western Cantabrian coast may experience some cloud cover and light showers, which are expected to fade as the day progresses. In the Canary Islands, especially on the northern slopes, clouds will dominate, though the chance of rain remains low, particularly in the eastern isles.
From Friday, an intense summer heat
On Friday, the warming trend becomes more pronounced, with temperatures climbing to around 95°F (35°C) across much of the south and east. Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for Aemet, confirmed that we can expect highs around 90°F (32°C) in areas like the northeast, Mallorca, central Spain, and the southern half of the country.
In southern Castilla-La Mancha and the Guadalquivir Valley, highs could spike to 97°F (36°C). The weekend will be particularly hot and clear in nearly all of Spain, with full sun and a dry atmosphere dominating.
Extreme weekend heat in multiple provinces
According to the forecast, by Saturday we’ll see widespread highs above 93°F (34°C) across the Ebro depression and most of southern Spain. Cities and regions in southern Comunidad Valenciana, Castilla-La Mancha, the Region of Murcia, and Andalucía will approach or exceed 95°F (35°C).
Inland zones and again in the Guadalquivir Valley, highs could even surpass 104°F (40°C). According to Del Campo, these are 5 to 10 degrees above the seasonal average, classifying the heat as a “full-blown summer episode” even though the season has not officially started.
Sunday shift: cooler in the east, hotter in the west
On Sunday, temperatures are expected to drop slightly in the eastern peninsula, while they continue to rise in the west, where highs above 95°F (35°C) will become widespread. Particularly in Seville, Córdoba, and Jaén, thermometers may register up to 106°F (41°C).
All signs point to a continuation of intense heat into the coming week, with persistent dryness and sun over most of the country.
Canary Islands: mild but cloudier conditions
In the Canary Islands, the forecast remains relatively stable through the week. Cloudy skies will be frequent on the northern slopes of the more mountainous islands, with the possibility of light drizzle, though precipitation remains unlikely.
Temperatures will rise slightly, maintaining a mild coastal climate, with lows between 64°F and 68°F (18°C–20°C) and highs from 73°F to 77°F (23°C–25°C).
