Severe thunderstorm risk into Wednesday night

Metro Detroit is currently under a marginal risk for severe weather — ranked 1 out of 5 on the Storm Prediction Center scale — as scattered storms develop through the evening into early Thursday. The primary concerns are damaging wind gusts potentially exceeding 60 mph and hail larger than 1 inch in diameter.

Although not every storm will be dangerous, isolated severe thunderstorms could strike during the late evening hours, especially after sunset, so it’s crucial to stay alert for any warnings that may be issued.

Skies will stay mostly cloudy throughout the night, and rain showers will continue intermittently, with temperatures dipping to around 64°F (18°C) by early morning.

Thursday: Showers linger, temperatures cooler

Thursday will begin with clouds and light rain still circulating the region. Morning showers will likely linger into early afternoon, but only isolated drizzle is expected later in the day. Skies remain overcast, with high temperatures peaking at just 72°F (22°C) — a noticeable cooldown from earlier this week’s summer-like warmth.

Thursday night remains mostly cloudy with lows falling to 58°F (14°C), keeping overnight conditions cool and damp.

Friday: Showers possible south of Metro Detroit

Friday’s forecast brings continued cloud cover as a low-pressure system skirts just south of Michigan. While most of Metro Detroit will stay dry, areas to the south could see spotty rain during the day. Temperatures rebound slightly, reaching a high near 75°F (24°C), hovering close to seasonal norms.

Weekend: Sunshine returns across southeastern Michigan

Both Saturday and Sunday look to deliver mostly sunny skies with minimal cloud cover, setting up an ideal early June weekend across southeastern Michigan. Afternoon highs will be comfortably warm, climbing into the upper 70s°F (25–26°C), perfect for any outdoor activities or local events.

Early next week: Another frontal system approaches

By Sunday night into Monday, another frontal boundary is forecast to sweep across southern Lower Michigan, bringing with it a renewed chance of showers and possible thunderstorms. Temperatures remain stable into early next week, continuing in the upper 70s°F (25–26°C).

By Tuesday, a mix of sun and clouds is expected, though with slightly cooler temperatures, settling into the middle 70s°F (24°C) range for the afternoon.
