⚠️ Flood advisory extended for parts of Northeast Ohio
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Thursday, June 5, saw the return of scattered downpours and thunderstorms across Northeast Ohio, driven by a slow-moving cold front slicing through the region. A flood advisory was issued, remaining active until 11:15 p.m., and included the counties of Ashland, Crawford, Richland, Holmes, Stark, Summit, and Wayne.
⛈️ Storm intensity and impacted areas
Storm cells that flared up during the afternoon and evening were capable of producing gusty winds, locally heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning. The most intense activity was observed along and east of I-71, where the air was more unstable. Rainfall rates were elevated, with slow-moving systems lingering over the same spots for extended periods, raising concerns for localized flooding.
🌡️ Temperature contrast across the region
Afternoon temperatures varied widely, depending on sunshine and rainfall. Locations with heavier cloud cover and precipitation hovered in the mid to upper 60s°F (18–20°C). In contrast, areas that saw more sunshine, particularly in the west and northwest, reached the lower 80s°F (27–28°C).
🌙 Thursday night outlook: Muggy and unsettled
The forecast for Thursday night pointed to mild and muggy conditions, with overnight lows expected in the lower 60s°F (16–17°C). Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms were projected to redevelop late overnight into early Friday, especially along and south of US30.
🌧️ Flooding risk into Friday morning
The slow progression of the storm systems was a major concern. These downpours were not expected to move quickly, and could lead to heavy rain accumulation in short bursts. Areas that experienced repeated rounds of rain were at increased risk of flash flooding by early Friday morning.
📉 Rain chances decrease for the weekend, but not gone
While the probability of rain drops heading into Saturday, the weekend is not expected to be completely dry. Scattered rain showers may form on Sunday as a low-pressure system moves through the Ohio River Valley.
Temperatures over the weekend will be pleasantly cool, with highs in the 70s°F (21–25°C) and a noticeable drop in humidity starting Saturday.
📅 Early next week: Cooler than average
As the new week begins, temperatures will remain cooler than normal, running about 5°F (2–3°C) below seasonal averages for early June. Daily highs are projected to hover in the low to mid-70s°F (21–23°C) across most of Northeast Ohio.
Stay weather-aware and monitor the evolving forecast as the flood threat continues through Friday morning.
