Two storm systems before summer heat intensifies
Severe weather is expected across much of Arkansas over the next 36 hours, with two distinct rounds of storms followed by a significant rise in temperature and humidity as we approach the weekend.
First round of storms late Tuesday night
A cluster of thunderstorms is forecast to reach northwest Arkansas late Tuesday night, gradually weakening as it travels south and east across the state overnight. While severe intensity is not widespread with this first wave, some localized gusty winds and brief heavy rainfall are possible, especially in higher elevations and urban corridors.
Hot and breezy Wednesday afternoon
By Wednesday afternoon, the weather will temporarily stabilize, but it will feel noticeably hotter and more humid. Expect temperatures in the low to mid-90s°F (around 34°C) with a brisk south breeze, signaling moisture return ahead of the second system. Skies will be partly sunny, but cloud cover will increase by evening.
Second round of storms Wednesday night into early Thursday
The second and potentially more intense round of storms is forecast to develop Wednesday night and move quickly across Arkansas during the early hours of Thursday morning. A few storms in this round could turn severe, with the main risks being strong straight-line winds and large hail. Localized power outages and minor wind damage are not out of the question.
Dangerous heat builds Thursday afternoon through the weekend
Once the storms exit, Arkansas will shift into a classic summer heat pattern. By Thursday afternoon, the sun will dominate and temperatures will rise sharply into the upper 90s°F (36–37°C). Heat index values are expected to range between 100°F and 105°F (38–41°C), particularly by Friday and Saturday, making heat safety and hydration critical concerns.
Stay tuned for more updates as the storm timing and severity evolve hour by hour.
