Strong thunderstorms possible Wednesday across North Texas

A slow-moving cold front is forecast to push into North Texas on Wednesday, June 18, bringing the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms throughout the region, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

By the afternoon, isolated to scattered storms may begin to develop ahead of the front, primarily near the Red River. As the front advances, additional storm activity is expected to form mainly along and north of Interstate 20, particularly between 6 p.m. and midnight.

The primary hazards associated with these storms include hail and damaging winds, both of which could affect areas within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. While most rainfall totals are expected to range from 0.25 to 1 inch (circa 6 to 25 mm), some spots near the Red River may see up to 1.5 inches (circa 38 mm) of precipitation.

Juneteenth weather: Fort Worth prepares for sunny skies

Looking ahead to Thursday, June 19, Fort Worth is expected to experience warm and sunny conditions—ideal for Juneteenth celebrations. High temperatures are projected to reach the mid-90s°F (around 35°C), providing a summer backdrop for the annual Juneteenth walk and surrounding events.

Sunny and dry weather is forecast to continue into the weekend, with highs remaining in the mid-90s°F (approximately 34°C to 36°C) across North Texas. Live music, block parties, and other festivities planned through the weekend should benefit from stable, dry weather conditions.
