After several scorching days, the extreme heat gripping North Jersey is finally starting to break, according to the latest forecasts from the National Weather Service in New York.
On Tuesday, June 25, an excessive heat warning remained in effect through 7 p.m. for much of New Jersey, including Sussex and Morris counties, with a heat advisory issued for Bergen and Passaic counties. Temperatures soared between 94 and 98 degrees Fahrenheit (34.4 – 36.6 °C) across much of the region, with the heat index surpassing 100°F (37.7 °C) in several locations.
What to expect starting Wednesday
According to the NWS Mount Holly office, a noticeable drop in heat will begin on Wednesday, June 26, though the cooler air will bring increased cloud cover and a higher chance of rain and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
Thursday, June 27, and the following days are expected to remain unsettled, with frequent showers, stormy conditions, and a decline in temperatures. While the air will feel less oppressive, the weather will likely stay cloudy and unstable through the weekend.
Daily forecast highlights
Wednesday, June 26 will bring mostly cloudy skies, with a high near 79°F (26.1 °C) and an overnight low around 64°F (17.7 °C).
Thursday, June 27, will see similar conditions, with highs reaching 71°F (21.6 °C) and lows around 65°F (18.3 °C).
These numbers mark a sharp cooldown compared to earlier this week, when a record-setting heat wave pushed temperatures to extreme levels across North Jersey.
