Strong storms could hit Metro Detroit Friday afternoon
METRO DETROIT, Michigan – Friday, June 28, 2025 – 7:00 a.m. EDT – Thunderstorms are expected to return to the Metro Detroit area this Friday, with the potential for severe weather between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.. According to the 4Warn Weather Team, Southeast Michigan is under a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe storms, a “slight” risk classification under the NOAA Storm Prediction Center.
As temperatures climb and humidity increases, conditions will be favorable for strong to potentially damaging thunderstorms late in the day. The primary threats will be damaging wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph (about 97 km/h) and localized flash flooding due to intense downpours.
Weekend outlook for Southeast Michigan
Saturday will bring a temporary cooldown, with highs settling in the mid-80s°F (around 29°C). Expect clearing skies and a noticeable drop in humidity, especially by evening. However, the heat returns Sunday and Monday, with temperatures rebounding near 90°F (32°C) and a fresh surge of moisture making the air feel stickier again.
Early next week: More showers and storms possible
A cold front is expected to push through on Monday, triggering another round of scattered thunderstorms and possible showers during the afternoon and evening hours. Following the frontal passage, seasonal temperatures in the mid-80s°F (about 29°C) will take hold through the rest of next week across Southeast Michigan.
