SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – A tropical depression developed Saturday, June 28, in the Bay of Campeche, just off the southeastern coast of Mexico, and is projected to intensify into a tropical storm during the weekend.
As of this afternoon, the center of the depression was located roughly 130 miles (210 kilometers) east of Veracruz, moving in a west-northwest direction at about 7 mph (11 kph). Maximum sustained winds were reported near 30 mph (45 kph).
A tropical storm warning is in effect from Boca de Catan south to Tecolutla, as the system is expected to gain strength before making landfall Sunday night along the eastern Mexican coast.
Widespread heavy rain will continue to impact southeastern Mexico and Guatemala through the coming days, raising the risk of localized flooding and disruptions across the region.
