Wednesday, July 2 – A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is now in effect for northeastern Genesee County, Michigan, as issued by the National Weather Service. The alert is active until 7 p.m. local time and highlights the risk of damaging hail and gusty winds across several densely populated communities.
A dangerous storm system, capable of producing hail up to 1 inch in diameter (approximately the size of a quarter) and winds reaching 60 mph, was detected over Crossroads Village, just outside Flint, at around 6:00 p.m. The storm is moving east at 25 mph, with its path likely to impact Flint, Burton, and Davison over the next hour.
Residents across these areas could experience hail-related damage to vehicles, downed tree limbs, and power outages, particularly where trees interact with overhead lines. The structural integrity of roofs, windows, and exterior surfaces may also be compromised in areas hit hardest by the hail and wind combination.
The National Weather Service has urged all individuals in the warning area to take shelter immediately, preferably in interior rooms away from windows and on the lowest level of sturdy buildings.
The warning comes amid an active week of severe weather potential across southeast Michigan, with heat, humidity, and unstable air masses fueling storm development across the region.
