Scattered showers from Barry’s remnants in South Texas
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Wednesday, July 2, 2025, 8:00 a.m. local time) — After forming as the first tropical storm of the year in the Gulf of Mexico, Barry made landfall in eastern Mexico late Sunday night, quickly weakening into a tropical depression. Despite its deterioration, the lingering tropical moisture has drifted into South Texas, bringing increased cloud cover and scattered rainfall, especially to western areas of the state.
Though the system no longer resembles a tropical storm, residual humidity is expected to generate isolated showers throughout the region during the day. Here’s what the forecast looks like.
Wednesday weather outlook: mild temps, limited rain
Morning conditions will begin similarly to recent days, with temperatures in the mid-70s °F (24 °C) under mostly cloudy skies. Rain chances remain low during the morning, but persistent cloud cover will keep temperatures from climbing quickly. By around 10 a.m., San Antonio is expected to reach 80 °F (27 °C) and gradually rise to the mid-80s °F (29 °C) by midday.
Afternoon highs will remain below the seasonal norm, likely topping out in the upper 80s °F (31 °C) by 4 p.m.—several degrees under the average July 2 high of 94 °F (34 °C) for San Antonio.
As tropical moisture pushes north from Mexico, scattered thunderstorms and showers are forecast to develop between 1 and 7 p.m., mainly over Bexar County and surrounding areas. However, overall rain coverage will be limited to about 30%, so most neighborhoods will likely stay dry.
Where rain does fall, totals will be light, generally under 0.1 inch, though isolated pockets could see up to 0.25 inch, especially closer to the Rio Grande, from Laredo to Del Rio.
Thursday outlook: drying trend begins
Rain chances on Thursday will decrease slightly, with only 20% or less of the region expected to see brief, isolated showers. Skies should stay partly to mostly cloudy, and highs will near 90 °F (32 °C) across South Texas.
Fourth of July: sunshine and seasonal warmth
For Independence Day celebrations across South Texas, the weather will be ideal. Rain chances drop to near zero, and daytime highs will remain slightly below average, climbing into the low 90s °F (33 °C).
Despite comfortable temperatures, humidity will remain elevated, pushing heat index values close to 100 °F (38 °C) in the afternoon and early evening. As the fireworks begin, expect temperatures to dip into the mid-80s °F (29 °C), cooling to the low 80s °F (27 °C) by 10 p.m.
Warming trend this weekend and beyond
A ridge of high pressure will begin building by the weekend, leading to a noticeable warm-up. On Saturday and Sunday, San Antonio is forecast to see daytime highs in the mid-90s °F (35 °C), while overnight lows stay in the mid-70s °F (24 °C).
By Monday and Tuesday, the heat intensifies, with highs reaching 95 to 97 °F (35–36 °C) and possibly climbing to 98 °F (37 °C) by next Wednesday. Rainfall will remain scarce, with mostly sunny skies expected into midweek.
