Saturday in Boston and across much of New England feels like a postcard from summer. Sunny skies, low humidity, and highs around 85°F (29°C) are making it an ideal day for hitting the beach, heading to the lakes, or exploring the trails. The dewpoints are low, the air is dry, and the vibe is nothing short of classic July serenity.
But while today feels like a dream, change is in the air.
As the sun sets this evening, humidity begins to rise, and overnight lows will hold steady in the mid 60s°F (around 18°C). The shift sets the stage for a volatile Sunday, where the atmosphere turns more active.
Sunday kicks off with lingering showers or thunder along the South Coast, paired with clouds and fog that may linger into the late morning, especially in southern areas. As the day moves on, patches of sunshine break through, and south winds begin to gust, driving temperatures up to the upper 80s°F (31°C).
This mix of sun, heat, and building moisture creates just enough instability for severe weather. A cold front sliding in from the northwest late in the day brings with it the highest risk for strong storms between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. across Boston and the wider New England region.
These storms could pack a punch. The primary threats? Damaging wind gusts, hail, intense lightning, and locally heavy downpours. A First Alert is in effect for the entire day due to the potential for impactful conditions.
By Sunday night, the storms move out, temperatures drop, and humidity falls, bringing some relief.
Monday starts off cooler, with highs dipping into the 70s°F (21–26°C) and crisp, dry air. Expect sunshine to dominate through at least midweek. The heat returns by Wednesday, climbing back to the 80s°F (27–30°C), with humidity rising again on Thursday as we approach the 90°F (32°C) mark.
Looking ahead, Friday brings the next shot at rain, and while temperatures slip slightly heading into the weekend, they remain solidly in the 80s°F (around 28°C).
