Unsettled skies start to clear across Greater Boston
After days of gray clouds, persistent rain, and lingering fog, residents of Massachusetts can finally look forward to a brighter, warmer stretch of weather. A cutoff low that’s been responsible for the recent unsettled pattern is drifting north of the Commonwealth, gradually loosening its grip.
While a few isolated showers or brief storms may still develop today, widespread rainfall is not expected across the Greater Boston area. Skies will be partly sunny, and a few patches of early morning fog may linger, especially in coastal and low-lying areas. Highs this afternoon will reach the upper 60s to lower 70s (around 20–22°C), offering a welcome change from the recent chill. Tonight, skies will remain partly cloudy, and temperatures will settle into the mid 50s (around 13°C).
Thursday brings the best weather of the week
Looking ahead, Thursday promises to be the standout day of the work week. A pleasant blend of sunshine and clouds will dominate the skies, and the mild southerly breeze will help lift temperatures into the low 70s (around 22°C).
However, by late afternoon or early evening, rain showers are expected to return. An area of low pressure tracking up the Eastern Seaboard will bring scattered rain back into the forecast, especially during the overnight hours into Friday.
Chilly, damp end to the week before a spring rebound
On Friday, expect a cool and damp day, as showers persist, especially during the morning and early afternoon. Highs will struggle to rise above the low 50s (around 11°C), making it the coolest day of the week. By Saturday, the low-pressure system starts to exit, and conditions gradually improve. Scattered morning clouds and lingering drizzle will give way to brighter skies by evening, with temperatures rebounding to the mid 60s (around 18°C).
Mother’s Day forecast looks spectacular
Looking ahead to Sunday, Mother’s Day is shaping up to be near perfect across most of Massachusetts. Expect plenty of sunshine, dry air, and highs in the low 70s (about 22°C). It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, whether you’re headed to the Charles River Esplanade, Cape Cod, or simply relaxing at home.
Next week: warming trend continues
The mild trend carries into next week, with daytime highs climbing into the mid 70s (about 24°C) by Tuesday and Wednesday. With dry air in place and a stable pattern, it looks like spring warmth is here to stay — at least for a while.
