Severe weather outlook for Wednesday
Parts of South Texas, particularly along the Gulf Coast, are facing a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms today, according to the Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service. This includes cities such as Beaumont, Houston, Victoria, Port Lavaca, and Corpus Christi. These areas are most at risk for storms capable of producing large hail and damaging winds.
The Dallas–Fort Worth area and parts of North Texas remain under a low severe threat, but storms there are expected to be isolated.
Two storm rounds expected
The day will be split into two distinct waves of thunderstorm activity:
The first round, arriving between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m., will mainly affect areas just north of the Gulf Coast. This morning cluster is expected to pass quickly, leaving behind partly sunny skies.
As the atmosphere warms and destabilizes through midday, a second round of scattered storms could ignite during the afternoon and evening hours. These later storms, while less widespread, could still produce severe conditions if they develop.
San Antonio and surrounding areas
San Antonio will see only about a 20% chance of thunderstorms. Most neighborhoods will stay dry, but any storm that forms could bring strong gusts and hail due to the unstable air mass.
Morning temperatures will start in the mid to upper 60s°F (around 18–20°C), climbing to near 80°F (about 27°C) by midday, and peaking in the mid-80s°F (around 29°C) in the afternoon—typical for early May.
Looking ahead: Thursday through the weekend
On Thursday, expect partly sunny skies with highs in the mid-80s°F (around 29°C). Storm chances increase west of the city, especially in Del Rio, Uvalde, and Laredo, while San Antonio retains a 20–30% chance of scattered late-day storms.
Friday brings drier air from the north, sweeping away storm chances and leaving the region with mostly sunny skies and temperatures from the mid-60s°F (around 18°C) in the morning to the lower to mid-80s°F (about 27–29°C) in the afternoon.
The weekend looks pleasant and seasonable. Early morning lows will dip into the upper 50s to lower 60s°F (around 14–17°C), with daytime highs remaining in the lower to mid-80s°F (about 27–29°C). The continued presence of dry air will keep humidity low, making for comfortable conditions across South Texas.
