Friday: Warm air and fewer storms than Thursday

After Thursday’s heavy rain, Charlotte residents can expect a calmer start to Friday, with clouds gradually giving way to sunshine. Temperatures will climb to around 80°F (27°C), making for a warm afternoon. A scattered line of storms could move in during the second half of the day, but these will mainly affect areas along and southeast of I-85, and are not expected to be as widespread as the previous night’s downpours.

Friday night will bring cooler, more stable conditions, with overnight lows dipping into the low 50s°F (around 11°C) under partly cloudy skies.

Saturday: A cool shift and lower rain risk

As we head into Mother’s Day weekend, a noticeable cool-down is expected. Highs on Saturday will hover just above 70°F (21°C), a significant drop from Friday. While some rain is still possible, the chances are low enough that the First Alert previously issued has been lifted. Expect cloud cover to remain prevalent through the day.

Mother’s Day Sunday: Cloudy with isolated showers

For Sunday, the First Alert stays in place, but rain probabilities remain modest. There may be a few light showers, especially during the afternoon. Cloudy skies and cool air will persist, with temperatures struggling to rise beyond 70°F (21°C). It won’t be a washout, but expect damp patches throughout the day, especially for outdoor celebrations.

Early next week: Significant rain and storms return

Monday through Wednesday will usher in a return to unsettled weather. Heavy, widespread rain develops Monday, accompanied by cool temperatures around 70°F (21°C). Thunderstorms will likely arrive Tuesday and Wednesday, as highs climb back to the mid-70s°F (24°C) on Tuesday and nearly 80°F (27°C) by Wednesday. First Alerts remain in effect for all three days due to the high probability of impactful weather.
