When the heat wave will end in California
LOS ANGELES, California — After an intense week marked by scorching temperatures across Southern California, particularly in the San Fernando Valley, San Gabriel Valley, and Santa Clarita, relief is finally in sight. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the high-pressure system responsible for the recent heat wave is weakening, allowing cooler air to move in.
Cooler weather begins this weekend in Los Angeles County
Starting this weekend, most areas in Los Angeles County will see a significant drop in temperatures. Daytime highs are expected to fall between 70°F and 79°F (21°C and 26°C), creating a much more comfortable environment compared to the highs earlier in the week, which soared well above 90°F (32°C).
Desert regions in California will continue to experience hot weather on Saturday and Sunday, but the majority of Southern California will enjoy a sunny yet milder weekend. According to The Weather Channel, while the sun will be out, there may also be some gusty winds, especially in inland and coastal zones.
Memorial Day forecast: cloudy skies and mild conditions
Looking ahead to Memorial Day on Monday, the forecast predicts cloudier skies and mild temperatures, averaging around 73°F (23°C) in Los Angeles. While not cold, this shift will mark a return to seasonal norms and offer a welcome break from the earlier heat spike.
Weather shift across the U.S.: storms expected in Texas and the Northeast
While California enjoys a cooldown, other parts of the United States are facing different weather challenges. Texas, including cities like Dallas and Fort Worth, is bracing for severe storms this Saturday, which may bring heavy rain, hail, and damaging winds. Conditions are forecast to improve by Sunday and Monday, making the holiday more pleasant.
Meanwhile, the Northeast, from New York City through New England, will be dealing with strong wind gusts, potentially exceeding 50 mph (80 km/h). These conditions could affect outdoor plans and travel during the holiday weekend.
