Rain and gusty winds set to hit Fort Wayne Tuesday afternoon

Fort Wayne, Indiana is bracing for a dramatic shift in weather conditions starting Tuesday afternoon, as a system of showers and scattered thunderstorms is forecast to sweep across northeast Indiana. According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, this marks the end of the recent stretch of sunshine, with clouds and precipitation dominating the skies through midweek.

Tuesday forecast: storms rolling in after 2 p.m.

Residents of Fort Wayne, New Haven, and Huntington should prepare for a 70% chance of rainfall and thunderstorms starting shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Temperatures will hover near 69°F (20.5°C), with gusts reaching up to 20 mph. While the storms aren’t currently classified as severe, brief downpours, isolated lightning, and gusty winds could still impact visibility and driving conditions, especially along I-69 and I-469, where construction zones could become hazardous when wet.

Tuesday night into Wednesday: heaviest rainfall expected

The most intense phase of this weather event is projected for late Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning, with showers likely lingering until around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Commuters in Allen County should plan for slow traffic and slippery roads, particularly during the Wednesday morning rush hour.

Midweek outlook: drier and slightly warmer

By Wednesday night, cloud cover will dominate but rain chances begin to fade. Thursday is shaping up to be mostly dry, with only a 20% chance of afternoon showers and temperatures reaching 69°F (20.5°C) once again. The warmup continues into Friday, when highs near 73°F (22.8°C) will pair with mostly sunny skies to provide a welcome return to summer-like weather.

Weekend preview: pleasant and mild conditions

Looking ahead to the weekend, weather models suggest a mild and mostly dry pattern, ideal for outdoor events and travel. Saturday and Sunday each bring only a slight risk of light showers, with temperatures expected in the mid-70s°F (around 24°C) — a perfect forecast for late May in Indiana.

Ongoing monitoring and updates

Although no severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued as of now, conditions will continue to be monitored closely. Residents are advised to stay updated for any changes, especially if rainfall totals rise or storm intensity increases.
