Unstable skies linger through midweek

Wednesday brings another unsettled day across Minnesota, with spotty showers and the possibility of isolated thunderstorms in some areas. Skies remain partly cloudy, and while most areas will stay dry, residents should still keep an umbrella handy during commutes and outdoor plans.

Thursday looks brighter and a bit warmer, but don’t rule out the chance of a stray afternoon shower, especially across central and eastern Minnesota. The atmosphere remains slightly unstable, keeping the occasional blip of thunder in the picture.

Heat builds into the weekend

By Friday, a warm-up takes hold, ushering in a string of 80-degree days. This warming trend continues into Saturday and Sunday, with the Twin Cities and much of southern Minnesota potentially hitting the upper 80s to near 90°F (32°C).

Sunday and Monday both have a real shot at breaking 90°F (32°C), particularly in urban corridors like Minneapolis–St. Paul, as southerly winds pump in warmer, more humid air.

Storm potential grows early next week

By Tuesday and Wednesday, models hint at a shift toward a more active pattern, as heat and humidity collide with approaching disturbances from the west. This setup could bring strong to severe thunderstorms, with gusty winds, heavy downpours, and possibly hail. The storm track and timing will become clearer in the coming days, but early indications suggest Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday night could be stormy for many areas.

Stay tuned as Meteorologist Sven Sundgaard continues to monitor these developments and provides updates on the potential 90-degree surge and severe weather threats heading into early June.
