Scattered showers return Wednesday across Dallas

Wednesday, May 28, began with intermittent rain showers across Dallas, with the wet weather continuing into midday. Storms are expected to intensify later in the afternoon, especially across areas to the south and west of the DFW Metroplex. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains active until 10 p.m., affecting regions south and west of Dallas–Fort Worth.

The most intense storms this afternoon may bring hail up to the size of quarters and wind gusts reaching 50 mph. North and east Dallas are likely to see fewer showers, as most of the storm activity concentrates elsewhere.

Thanks to the thick cloud cover, daytime temperatures are struggling to reach 80°F (27°C), keeping the overall feel cooler and more comfortable than usual for late May.

Thursday forecast: brief break, then more rain possible

By Thursday morning, Dallas will be on the back side of the current weather disturbance, lowering the chance of showers overnight and early in the day. However, a cold front moving in from the north will bring renewed lift in the atmosphere by Thursday afternoon and evening, increasing the potential for new showers and isolated storms.

Friday forecast: sunshine returns with drier air

As the cold front clears the region, Friday looks notably drier and more pleasant. The morning might start with some lingering cloud cover, but the skies will gradually clear, delivering more sunshine and highs in the low 80s°F (27–28°C). Dew points will dip back into the 50s°F (10–15°C), making the air feel crisp and comfortable for late May.

Weekend outlook: warm and unsettled by Sunday

Saturday will likely be a calm, warm day, closing out May with light winds and temperatures in the mid 80s°F (29–30°C). But changes are brewing for the weekend. A stronger disturbance from the central Plains is set to arrive Saturday night, though timing is still uncertain. At this stage, it appears storms may hold off until early Sunday morning, sweeping through quickly.

Once that system moves out, Sunday afternoon should see a return of sunshine and highs again in the 80s°F (around 30°C).

Early next week: warming trend into June

Looking ahead to Monday, Dallas will begin to feel more like early summer, with highs approaching 90°F (32°C). Sunshine and humidity levels will rise, setting up a seasonably warm and breezy Tuesday, with a slight chance for scattered storms once again.
