High ozone levels trigger health alert for midweek

PHOENIX — As of Wednesday, a High Pollution Advisory has been issued for Arizona, with elevated ozone levels expected to exceed federal health standards through Thursday. Sensitive groups — including children, adults with respiratory conditions, and those with lung diseases — should minimize outdoor activities during this time. The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality is also urging the public to reduce vehicle use, avoid using gas-powered tools like leaf blowers, and postpone large-scale painting or wood-burning activities.

Warm and sunny days ahead before tropical moisture arrives

Today in the Phoenix Valley, temperatures will peak at 103°F (39.4°C), just a few degrees higher than seasonal averages. Sunny skies and light winds will dominate the day. A weak disturbance sweeping through northern and eastern Arizona could trigger light showers and isolated thunderstorms, though the rest of the state will remain mostly dry.

Thursday through Saturday will bring dry conditions with gradual warming. Forecasts show a high of 106°F (41.1°C) by Friday, dropping slightly to 104°F (40°C) by Saturday in the Phoenix metro.

First Alert Weather Days issued for Sunday and Monday

Two major weather systems are converging: a low-pressure zone off the Baja Peninsula and the remnants of the first tropical storm of the Eastern Pacific season. This pairing is forecast to pull tropical moisture into Arizona, setting up a rare early June rain pattern.

As a result, First Alert Weather Days have been announced for Sunday and Monday. While isolated thunderstorms could begin Saturday night, the best chances for rain are Sunday afternoon into the evening, with Valley rain probabilities nearing 50%.

Though the system is warm and snowfall is not expected — except at Arizona’s highest peaks — travelers should prepare for flight delays into Phoenix Sky Harbor, particularly Sunday night through early Monday.

Expect upper 90s next week with a rainy Monday commute

With the passing system, temperatures will hover in the upper 90s°F (36–37°C) from Sunday through Tuesday. Monday morning’s commute could be impacted by wet roads, especially if overnight showers persist into daybreak.

Stay weather-aware as forecast updates continue and prepare for shifting weekend plans as Arizona enters a tropical moisture-influenced stretch.
