Cold snap overnight in Nicholas, Webster, Tucker, Pocahontas and Randolph
Saturday, June 1, 2025 – New York time – Clear skies and a rapid drop in temperatures have prompted the National Weather Service to issue frost advisories across parts of central and eastern West Virginia. This alert affects Nicholas, Webster, Tucker, Pocahontas, and Randolph Counties, and remains in effect until 8:00 AM on Sunday morning.
StormTracker 13 meteorologists forecast “efficient cooling” tonight due to radiational cooling under clear skies, which can quickly drive temperatures near or slightly below freezing in rural valleys. While daytime conditions have been seasonal or slightly cool, tonight’s drop could cause damage to sensitive vegetation and early crops, especially in higher elevations and open fields.
Sunday will bring cooler-than-average temperatures, with daytime highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s (around 14–18°C) in many of these mountain counties. Despite the chilly start, the overall pattern will shift toward warmer and sunnier weather starting Monday, with temperatures expected to climb steadily through the work week.
The next five days are forecast to be dry and sunny, ideal for outdoor activities and travel. Warming conditions, particularly in the Ohio Valley and Appalachian Plateau, will usher in a return to early summer heat by midweek, with temperatures rising into the upper 70s and low 80s (25–28°C).
Residents in the affected counties are urged to stay informed by checking local forecasts, and to prepare for possible overnight frost, particularly in low-lying areas where temperature inversions are strongest.
