Strong thunderstorms expected overnight in the Dallas-Fort Worth area

After a relatively calm and dry weekend across Dallas-Fort Worth, the weather is set to take a dramatic turn beginning Tuesday evening, June 3, with a new system bringing strong to severe thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

Tuesday evening into early Wednesday: When the storm hits

Storms are forecast to arrive in North Texas Tuesday afternoon, but the heaviest rain and severe weather risk will occur overnight between midnight and 4 a.m. on Wednesday, primarily affecting the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The storms will move eastward through the night, bringing intense rainfall, gusty winds, hail, and a potential flood threat.

Expected rainfall totals range from 1 to 2 inches, with some localized spots possibly receiving more. Winds from the south at 10-20 mph will feed the system as it intensifies across western counties, then shifts toward central D-FW during the most volatile hours.

Wednesday: Lingering rain, gradually easing

Rain chances will persist Wednesday, especially through early afternoon. The strongest activity should clear out by around 1 p.m., but residual showers and scattered clouds will remain. Temperatures will dip slightly with a high around 83°F (28°C) and a north wind between 5-10 mph, signaling the system’s departure from the region.

Looking ahead: Quieter skies through the weekend

Thursday will see partly cloudy conditions with only a low chance of rain and highs near 85°F (29°C), while the weekend warms back up with mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing toward the low 90s°F (32-34°C) by Saturday.

Winds will shift to the southeast and south, helping to push humidity levels back up, setting the stage for a more summer-like pattern by Friday and Saturday.

Stay weather-aware overnight in Dallas-Fort Worth, especially between midnight and 4 a.m. Wednesday, when severe conditions may impact travel and outdoor infrastructure across the metro.
