Mercury surges again starting Thursday

After a brief cool spell, temperatures are once again on the rise across Spain, signaling the return of full-blown summer heat. Beginning this Thursday, maximum temperatures are forecast to climb above 86°F (30°C) across much of the northeast, Balearic Islands, central Spain, and southern regions. In the Guadalquivir Valley, the thermometer may hit 93°F (34°C).

Aemet, the Spanish Meteorological Agency, confirms a general pattern of stable weather with mostly clear skies. Only Galicia and the western Cantabrian coast may see light rain tied to a weak front, but that will clear by afternoon. Meanwhile, cloudier conditions are expected in northern Canary Islands, although the chance of rain remains low.

Intense heat hits the south and center by Friday

On Friday, the heat intensifies, with most of the southern and eastern mainland basking in highs near 95°F (35°C). Rubén del Campo, a spokesperson for Aemet, anticipates temperatures reaching 90°F (32°C) across the northeast, Mallorca, central plateau, and southern half of the country. Some areas in southern Castilla-La Mancha and the Guadalquivir Valley may even hit 97°F (36°C).

The heat will persist through the weekend, accompanied by clear skies and stable conditions almost everywhere in Spain.

Saturday and Sunday to bring peak heat across Andalucía

By Saturday, southern Comunidad Valenciana, Murcia, Andalucía, and Castilla-La Mancha will likely experience highs around 95°F (35°C). The Guadalquivir Valley—especially Seville, Córdoba, and Jaén—could break the 105°F (41°C) barrier, marking a significant deviation from seasonal norms.

Del Campo notes that temperatures are running between 9°F and 18°F (5°C to 10°C) above average, describing the situation as “true midsummer heat.”

Northwestern Spain stays cool while Canary Islands remain mild

In contrast, northern Spain will experience milder weather. The Cantabrian coast and surrounding regions could see cloudy skies and highs ranging from 64°F to 68°F (18°C to 20°C), maintaining a refreshing contrast to the rest of the peninsula.

In the Canary Islands, stable conditions will continue, with cloudy mornings in the northern parts of the higher islands and occasional drizzle. Daytime temperatures will range from 73°F to 77°F (23°C to 25°C), while nighttime lows will stay near 64°F to 68°F (18°C to 20°C), especially along coastal zones.

Looking ahead: persistent heat into next week

According to current projections, hot weather will dominate again next week, particularly across southern and western Spain, where the heat dome effect could sustain daily highs over 95°F (35°C), further straining vulnerable populations and increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Stay informed about regional warnings and monitor temperature updates as the heatwave progresses.
