Scattered storms and fog to dominate Sunday in New Jersey

Sunday, June 8, will remain unsettled across most of New Jersey, as a cold front exiting the region leaves behind humid air, patchy fog, and spotty thunderstorms. Expect showers and isolated storms to continue through the day, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. Temperatures will remain mild, hovering between 74°F and 76°F (23°C to 24°C), while dew points stay high, keeping conditions sticky and uncomfortable.

The early morning hours will be marked by dense fog and low cloud cover, especially in inland valleys and near the Delaware River, where temperatures could dip as low as 58°F (14°C) before sunrise.

Brief break in storms on Monday

After the wet and foggy weekend, Monday, June 9, is expected to offer temporary relief. Forecast models suggest a mostly dry day across northern and central New Jersey, with partly sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the mid-70s (around 24°C). However, the humidity will linger, with muggy conditions prevailing during the afternoon.

Another storm threat returns Tuesday

Tuesday, June 10, brings renewed concerns for severe weather, as a low-pressure system tracks eastward from the Ohio Valley, dragging a moisture-laden front into the Garden State. This setup may produce scattered thunderstorms, some of which could be locally strong, especially in South Jersey and the coastal areas.

Temperatures will rise again, reaching 78°F to 80°F (26°C to 27°C) during the day. Winds could become gusty near thunderstorms, and there’s potential for hail and localized flooding in urban areas.

Warming trend begins midweek

By Wednesday, June 11, a notable shift in the weather pattern will begin. As the frontal system clears and high pressure builds in from the south, dry and warmer air will sweep across New Jersey. Expect sunny skies and significantly warmer highs ranging from 82°F to 86°F (28°C to 30°C), with urban centers such as Newark, Jersey City, and Trenton possibly reaching 89°F (32°C) by Thursday and Friday.

Humidity will also return by the end of the week, and overnight temperatures will remain in the upper 60s (around 20°C).

Looking ahead: late-week front could shake things up

Forecasts for Friday, June 13, and Saturday, June 14, indicate a cold front may slide down from Canada, potentially breaking the heat and bringing scattered showers or thunderstorms. This would also lower temperatures to more seasonable levels, around 76°F to 78°F (24°C to 26°C), especially across northwestern New Jersey and the Pinelands.

However, meteorologists caution that long-range models still contain high uncertainty, and conditions may evolve in the coming days.
