Severe weather risk across Wichita and southern Kansas on Sunday, June 8
Today, Sunday, June 8, the Wichita area and much of southern Kansas face a threat of severe thunderstorms, according to meteorologist Dean Jones.
Scattered storms are expected to develop early to mid-afternoon across southern Kansas, continuing into the evening hours before shifting into northern Oklahoma around sunset.
These storms may produce large hail up to golf ball size and damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph.
Storm-free stretch expected from Monday through Wednesday
Following today’s activity, dry and stable weather will dominate the forecast across Kansas from Monday through Wednesday. High temperatures will climb into the 80s°F (upper 20s°C) under mostly sunny skies.
Slight chance of isolated storms Thursday
A weak storm system may bring a few isolated thunderstorms to eastern Kansas on Thursday, but severe weather is not expected with this round.
Hotter pattern likely by mid-June
Looking ahead, a warming trend is expected to return by early next week, with highs climbing back into the 90s°F (32°C+), marking the start of a hotter mid-June pattern.
