Many residents, like Zach Baron of South Boston, expressed their disappointment. “You work all week, it’s beautiful, then by Saturday, here comes the rain,” he said, echoing the sentiment of thousands across the Greater Boston area.
Outdoor dining venues, especially in neighborhoods like South Boston and Beacon Hill, have seen a tangible shift in business. Brett Ursino, bartender at Petula’s, noted that under clear skies, they’d expect full tables and even a line out the door. Instead, the rain has kept would-be diners inside or on the go.
Not all businesses are suffering, though. Mimi Murphy, who owns a retail shop in Beacon Hill, described the wet weekends as “either a blessing or a curse.” She emphasized that graduation ceremonies and summer festivals have kept foot traffic steady. “If it weren’t for the events,” she added, “we’d have radio silence.”
