  • 7-day forecast for the Wichita area

Wichita, Kansas — This Monday, June 17, 2025, began under cloudy skies and a muggy atmosphere, with morning temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to low 70s Fahrenheit (about 18–22°C). As the clouds clear and sunshine returns through the day, afternoon highs are expected to reach the upper 80s to lower 90s Fahrenheit (around 31–34°C), slightly above average for mid-June.

Strong storms possible late Monday in northern Kansas

A cluster of showers and thunderstorms will move into northern Kansas after 6:00 p.m., advancing from southern Nebraska. While these storms are not expected to be widespread or severe, a few may turn strong, bringing the potential for large hail, gusty winds, and brief downpours. These storms are forecast to reach south-central Kansas, including the Wichita area, after 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Tuesday’s cold front could trigger severe weather

A cold front sweeping through Kansas on Tuesday will likely ignite new storms in the late afternoon and evening hours. Some of these may become severe, with damaging wind gusts, hail, and heavy rainfall in isolated pockets. Despite the incoming front, Tuesday’s high temperatures will remain in the lower to mid-90s Fahrenheit (around 33–35°C).

Wednesday brings slight relief, then the heat dome builds

Following the storms, Wednesday will offer slightly cooler conditions with afternoon highs in the upper 80s Fahrenheit (about 31°C) under mostly sunny skies. But this brief respite will be followed by the arrival of the “heat dome” — a stagnant high-pressure system settling over the Central Plains.

This heat dome is expected to linger across Kansas from Thursday through the weekend, bringing unrelenting sunshine and scorching temperatures well into the upper 90s and low 100s Fahrenheit (approximately 37–39°C and beyond). Rain chances will be virtually nonexistent during this stretch.

7-day forecast for the Wichita area

Today, Monday: Becoming mostly sunny with a southeast wind at 5–15 mph. High near 89°F (32°C).
Tonight: Clouds increase after sunset with overnight showers and thunderstorms likely. Low around 71°F (22°C).

Tuesday: Storms possible both in the early morning and again late. Breezy south to southeast winds at 15–25 mph, with higher gusts possible. High around 92°F (33°C).

Wednesday: Becoming mostly sunny after a cooler morning low of 70°F (21°C). Afternoon high near 88°F (31°C).

Thursday: Sunny and hot, starting at 67°F (19°C) and reaching a high of 92°F (33°C).

Friday: Hot and breezy with a low of 73°F (23°C) and a high of 98°F (37°C).

Saturday: Sunny and windy, low near 74°F (23°C), high around 97°F (36°C).

Sunday: Remaining hot and breezy, starting at 72°F (22°C) and rising to 95°F (35°C).
