Las Vegas, Nevada is currently enduring an Extreme Heat Warning, in effect through Thursday evening at 10 PM. Daytime temperatures are climbing far above seasonal norms, reaching 110°F (43°C) on Wednesday and 109°F (43°C) on Thursday. These values are 5 to 10 degrees hotter than average for mid-June, creating a severe heat hazard for residents and visitors alike.

What makes this heat wave particularly dangerous is the lack of nighttime cooling. Overnight lows will remain stubbornly high—around 85°F (29°C) on Wednesday night and 82°F (28°C) on Thursday night—offering little relief from the intense daytime heat. According to meteorologists, this combination significantly elevates the risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for those without access to air conditioning or proper hydration.

To combat the extreme conditions, cooling stations are now open across the Las Vegas Valley, offering a safe haven for anyone needing respite. Public health officials are warning that extreme heat can be fatal, particularly for the elderly, children, and individuals with preexisting health conditions.

From Thursday through Saturday, the region will also experience increasing winds, with gusts reaching 35 mph in some valley locations and peaking near 40 mph on Saturday. These breezy conditions, combined with high temperatures, may also increase the risk of wildfires in outlying desert areas.

However, a cooling trend is on the horizon. Starting Saturday, afternoon highs will begin to dip below the triple-digit mark. Sunday is forecast to be the coolest day, with a high of just 93°F (34°C). While winds will diminish, temperatures will remain in the low to upper 90s into Tuesday, offering slight relief from the scorching heat.

Forecast at a glance (°F/°C):

Wednesday: 110°F (43°C) / 85°F (29°C)
Thursday: 109°F (43°C) / 82°F (28°C)
Friday: 105°F (41°C) / 77°F (25°C)
Saturday: 97°F (36°C) / 71°F (22°C)
Sunday: 93°F (34°C) / 72°F (22°C)
Monday: 97°F (36°C) / 75°F (24°C)
Tuesday: 99°F (37°C) / 77°F (25°C)

Extreme heat combined with strong winds makes this a critical period for weather vigilance across Southern Nevada.
