Hot and dry conditions continue through Saturday across Denver
DENVER, Colorado — Friday, June 21, 2025, 9:30 a.m. (local time) — A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day remains in effect for Saturday across Denver and much of northeastern Colorado, as the region faces another stretch of intense summer heat and unrelenting sun. The high-pressure system currently dominating the area will push daytime temperatures into the upper 90s Fahrenheit (35–37°C), with minimal cloud cover and very low humidity levels.
This early summer heatwave is driven by a stagnant ridge of high pressure, centered over the central Plains, which is trapping warm air across the Front Range. The result is above-average temperatures, dry conditions, and elevated fire danger for much of the weekend.
Saturday is expected to be the hottest day of the week, with highs soaring to around 98°F (37°C) in downtown Denver and surrounding suburbs such as Aurora, Lakewood, and Thornton. Overnight lows will offer limited relief, dipping only into the mid-60s (around 18°C), making for warm nights and uncomfortable sleeping conditions, especially in areas without air conditioning.
Winds will remain generally light from the southeast, although gusty breezes may develop during the late afternoon, especially along the I-25 corridor and the eastern plains. These winds, combined with the dry vegetation and high temperatures, keep the fire weather risk elevated, particularly near Boulder, Fort Collins, and east toward Sterling.
Sunday will still be hot, though slightly cooler, with highs in the mid-90s Fahrenheit (around 35°C). A few isolated thunderstorms are possible late in the day, especially over the foothills and parts of southern Colorado, but no widespread relief from the heat is expected.
This pattern is expected to persist into early next week, with temperatures remaining well above seasonal averages for late June across the Denver metro area and much of Colorado’s Eastern Plains.
