Richmond, Virginia — Thousands of homes and businesses across Central Virginia were left without electricity on Wednesday, June 25, as an intense heat wave swept through the region, pushing heat index values into the triple digits.
At the height of the outages, more than 12,000 customers in the Greater Richmond Region lost power, according to Dominion Energy. The extreme weather conditions, with feels-like temperatures well above 100°F (37.7°C), placed significant strain on the power grid, contributing to widespread disruptions.
By the morning of Thursday, June 26, service had been restored to nearly all impacted locations, as indicated on Dominion Energy’s official platform. The company did not immediately confirm the exact cause of the outages, though the high demand during the heat wave likely played a critical role.
