Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Central Ohio
A severe thunderstorm warning remains active across parts of Central Ohio this Thursday, June 26, with the National Weather Service in Wilmington issuing the alert at 2:38 p.m. local time. The advisory is expected to last until 3:30 p.m..
The warning specifically covers southeastern Franklin County, northwestern Fairfield County, north central Pickaway County, and southwestern Licking County. Earlier this afternoon, at 2:22 p.m., a severe storm was reported over South Bloomfield, traveling northeast at 15 mph. By 2:38 p.m., the system was observed near Groveport, shifting eastward at the same speed.
Meteorologists warn the storm is capable of producing damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail the size of pennies. The combination of strong winds and hail could cause significant damage to trees and power lines across the affected areas.
Authorities strongly urge residents in the warned counties to take immediate shelter in interior rooms located on the lowest floor of any building, as this system continues to move across Central Ohio.
