Chilly start to the week in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area

As of Sunday, June 29, 2025, the National Meteorological Service of Argentina (SMN) is reporting a significant drop in temperatures for the Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires (AMBA), alongside a nationwide alert for extreme cold, currently in effect across thirteen provinces.

Today’s early hours began with a minimum of 41°F (5°C) and drizzle across the region. Through the afternoon, temperatures are expected to climb to around 48°F (9°C), accompanied by scattered showers and winds between 14 and 19 mph (23–31 km/h). By nightfall, the temperature will dip again to 41°F (5°C) with mostly cloudy skies, although no further rainfall is expected.

Clearer skies but colder air for Monday

On Monday morning, skies will begin to gradually clear, bringing a sharp chill with early temperatures of 39°F (4°C) at dawn, and just 36°F (2°C) in the early morning. In the afternoon, the high is forecast to reach only 48°F (9°C), cooling again to 43°F (6°C) overnight under completely clear skies.

Tuesday: the coldest day of the week

Tuesday is shaping up to be the coldest day of the week. The minimum temperature could drop to 32°F (0°C) early in the day, while afternoon highs will hover near 50°F (10°C). Despite the cold, mostly clear to slightly cloudy skies will allow for some sunlight throughout the day.

Weather outlook for the rest of the week in AMBA

Wednesday will follow a similar pattern, with clear skies throughout the day. Both morning lows and daytime highs will rise by about 1 degree Fahrenheit, compared to Tuesday. From Thursday to Saturday, the forecast suggests a dry spell will persist, with temperatures ranging between 39°F and 59°F (4°C–15°C). However, cloud cover will gradually increase, turning from partially cloudy to mostly cloudy toward the weekend.

Buenos Aires Province sees snow, rain, and dense fog

Elsewhere in the Province of Buenos Aires, SMN reported a high chance of rain and snow this morning across much of the central and southern areas. Meanwhile, skies in the west and northwest remained mostly to partly cloudy.

During the afternoon, localized showers are expected to continue in the previously affected zones. Snowfall warnings are still in place for Coronel Suárez, Coronel Pringles, Sierra de la Ventana, and Pigüé. As night falls, snow may shift southward, reaching much of the coastline, from San Clemente del Tuyú to Bahía Blanca.

Monday will start with persistent rainfall and snow along the coastal region, while dense fog is expected to develop throughout the province, potentially reducing visibility. Later in the morning, this humid front will begin to dissipate, although coastal cities such as Mar del Plata, Miramar, Necochea, Monte Hermoso, and Bahía Blanca will still be affected.

By the afternoon, the western and northwestern areas will experience clear skies, while partly cloudy skies and lingering showers will affect regions from Necochea to San Clemente del Tuyú. In the evening, the entire province is expected to see clear conditions.

From Tuesday into Wednesday, low cloud cover will prevail across the Buenos Aires Province, with a few areas reporting slightly cloudy skies. Between Thursday and Saturday, cloudiness will increase significantly, although no rain is expected.

Yellow alert for extreme cold in much of Argentina

The SMN has issued a yellow alert for extremely low temperatures across most of Argentina, impacting Tierra del Fuego, Santa Cruz, Chubut, Río Negro, Neuquén, La Pampa, Mendoza, San Luis, San Juan, La Rioja, Catamarca, as well as northern, western, and southern Córdoba, and a large portion of Buenos Aires Province.
