More thunderstorms expected across southern Arizona through midweek
TUCSON, Arizona — The monsoon season is gaining momentum across Southern Arizona as increasing moisture pushes into the region, bringing with it a greater chance of thunderstorms and a noticeable drop in temperatures by midweek.
Between Tuesday and Thursday, thunderstorm activity will become more frequent, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Some of these storms may deliver gusty outflow winds, localized blowing dust, and brief but heavy downpours, particularly across Tucson, Cochise County, and surrounding areas.
Daytime highs will retreat slightly from the recent extreme heat, sliding into the upper 90s Fahrenheit (around 36–38°C) by Thursday, offering some temporary relief from the earlier triple-digit readings.
July 4th, Independence Day, may feature a few isolated storms, especially in higher elevations, but overall, most locations should remain dry enough for outdoor events and celebrations across Southern Arizona.
As monsoon dynamics continue to evolve, expect a mix of brief downpours, dusty breezes, and seasonal cooling, signaling that summer storm season is officially back.
