Scattered strong storms possible Tuesday afternoon across Middle Tennessee
NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Tuesday, July 2, 2025, 8:00 a.m. (ET) — A cold front moving through Middle Tennessee today will bring another round of rain and thunderstorms, with the potential for isolated strong storms, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours. While the overall risk of severe weather remains low, the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for portions of southeast and eastern Tennessee.
Localized gusty winds are the main threat, particularly in areas east of Nashville. Any thunderstorm could also produce intense lightning and brief downpours, which may affect local travel conditions.
Storm activity is expected to diminish by early evening, with drier and slightly less humid air filtering in behind the front. Dew points—currently in the very humid low to mid-70s (°F) (around 24°C)—will drop into the 60s (around 18°C) by Wednesday, bringing mild relief from the recent tropical-like humidity.
Despite the lower humidity, afternoon temperatures will still reach the upper 80s to low 90s (around 31–33°C) through the rest of the week. However, the heat index will not be as extreme as in recent days, offering a more tolerable summer heat.
Looking ahead, Thursday’s Fourth of July holiday appears warm and mostly dry, with no major storm systems expected in the region.
