High temperatures will remain locked in the low 90s (around 33 °C) across Metro Detroit through the weekend, as hot and humid air continues to grip Southeast Michigan. After a dry and sunny Saturday, thunderstorm chances return by Sunday afternoon and evening, bringing a temporary shift in the weather pattern.
Saturday stays dry but dangerously hot
Expect plenty of sunshine on Saturday, though high clouds will gradually filter in by the afternoon. Temperatures will climb into the low 90s (around 33 °C), but heat index values—what it actually feels like—could reach the upper 90s to near 100 °F (37-38 °C) due to oppressive humidity.
An Air Quality Alert remains in effect for most of the region. The Air Quality Index (AQI) is expected to stay in the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” category, particularly affecting older adults and those with asthma or chronic respiratory issues. It’s best to limit extended outdoor exposure if you’re in a vulnerable group.
Saturday night will be mainly clear and muggy, with overnight lows dropping only into the low 70s (around 23 °C).
Storms return late Sunday with lingering humidity
Sunday begins with partly cloudy skies, and though the morning hours will still see some sun, the risk for showers and thunderstorms increases through the afternoon and evening. The heat and humidity won’t budge—expect highs again in the low 90s (around 33 °C), with the heat index again flirting with the 100 °F (38 °C) mark.
By Sunday night, scattered thunderstorms and showers may linger before a cold front pushes through the region late overnight into early Monday morning, bringing some relief from the heat.
Early next week: mild cooldown, then more rain chances
Behind the front, cloud cover will persist into Monday, but the rain clears out. Temperatures dip slightly, with highs in the mid-80s (around 29 °C). The dry stretch continues through Tuesday, before another round of showers and thunderstorms returns for the middle of the week, especially by Wednesday and Thursday.
Highs will stay seasonable, hovering in the mid-80s (around 29 °C) through the second half of the week, with a mix of sun and clouds expected to return by Friday.
