Weather in Southeast Michigan: temperatures drop after stormy weekend
Monday, July 7, 2025 – METRO DETROIT, Michigan – The intense thunderstorms that marked the end of the holiday weekend have moved out of Southeast Michigan, making way for a shift toward cooler, more seasonal temperatures across the region.
The cold front responsible for Sunday’s storms is now sweeping in drier and more comfortable air, especially across Metro Detroit and the surrounding areas. Overnight into Monday morning, a few light showers may persist, but the risk of severe weather has ended.
Monday morning will be mostly cloudy, with temperatures dipping into the mid-60s to around 70°F (18–21°C) across most locations. Some areas in the Thumb region could briefly fall into the lower 60s (16–17°C).
Monday
The beginning of the workweek sees the return of typical early-July weather. Expect afternoon highs ranging from the lower 70s (21–23°C) in Port Huron to the lower 80s (27–28°C) in Downtown Detroit. The humidity will decrease, making the day feel noticeably more comfortable.
Skies will stay mostly cloudy through the morning, with partial clearing expected during the afternoon hours. There remains a slight chance for a brief, isolated rain shower or a pop-up thunderstorm, especially during the warmest part of the day.
Monday night will be partly cloudy, and temperatures will drop into the lower to mid-60s (17–19°C), offering a refreshing evening across the Detroit metro area.
Tuesday
Tuesday brings back the heat—but not the storms. The day will be hot, dry, and mostly sunny, with high temperatures climbing into the mid-80s (29°C), and overnight lows hovering in the upper 60s (20°C). It’s shaping up to be a classic summer day for Metro Detroit.
Wednesday and Thursday
Another round of showers and thunderstorms is likely to return by Wednesday evening and continue into Thursday. Despite the wet conditions, highs will remain in the mid-80s (29°C), while lows dip to the mid-60s (18°C).
Looking ahead
The unsettled pattern continues into Friday and next weekend, with additional chances for scattered rain and thunderstorms likely across Southeast Michigan.
