The National Weather Service has issued an updated heat advisory for Bristol, Plymouth, and Barnstable Counties in Massachusetts, valid from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. today, Tuesday.
According to the official bulletin released at 2:37 a.m., heat index values could reach up to 100°F (38°C) this afternoon. These conditions are expected to bring intense heat and elevated humidity, which may lead to heat-related illnesses if precautions are not taken.
Bristol, Plymouth, and Barnstable, all located in southeastern Massachusetts, will be under the most direct impact. Temperatures across these areas are forecast to rise quickly by late morning, with humidity levels pushing perceived temperatures toward dangerous thresholds.
The combination of high heat and moist air can create hazardous conditions, particularly for vulnerable populations, including the elderly, young children, and those working outdoors. Heat exhaustion and even heat stroke remain significant risks under these circumstances.
Stay alert throughout the day as conditions peak between early afternoon and early evening, especially in urban centers and less ventilated spaces across these three counties in Massachusetts.
New guidance or updates from the National Weather Service are expected should temperatures climb further or if warnings escalate.
