CLEVELAND (WJW) — Sunday brought another classic midsummer day to Northeast Ohio, with warm temperatures and plenty of humidity hanging in the air. Afternoon highs topped out in the low to mid 80s°F (28–30°C), making it feel even stickier than it looked.
A few scattered downpours or thunderstorms could bubble up late this Sunday evening as a slow-moving cold front edges closer to the region. That said, rainfall looks hit-or-miss, so many communities will probably remain dry as the sun goes down.
Expect the evening to stay very warm, with temps gradually easing through the 80s°F (27–30°C). Overnight, it’ll stay muggy, with lows only dipping to around 70°F (21°C). Another brief round of showers could move through late tonight into early Monday morning, especially across western counties.
That cold front arriving tonight won’t be in a hurry to leave. Because of its sluggish pace, Monday’s rain chances are higher, particularly during the morning hours. Expect showers to sweep west to east before tapering off into the early afternoon, as drier air begins to sneak in from the north.
By Monday afternoon, skies should brighten, and while it’ll still feel warm, humidity levels may dip slightly as the front drifts southeast. Highs will once again land in the low to mid 80s°F (28–30°C).
But the relief will be short-lived. Heat and humidity will come roaring back by Tuesday, setting the stage for the hottest stretch of the week. Tuesday and Wednesday could see highs near 90°F (32°C), with the steamy air sparking a few pop-up storms, particularly late Wednesday.
The best chance for more widespread rain and storms arrives Thursday, as another cold front approaches. Depending on how quickly it moves through, rain chances could linger into the weekend.
